TEA FLOWER
Rest for tea muslin sachet
silver plated
A6115 - 59 €
Buy
../images/T2/A6115.jpg
Set aside
First the fine muslin tea sachet is displayed, then brought to the nose, and finally plunged into simmering water: light and transparent, a muslin sachet provides the perfect setting for handsome whole-leaf teas, which have the room to open and steep gently. Once withdrawn from the cup, the noble sachet is then placed in its own elegant silver-plated dish. We call it our “Tea Flower.” It was inspired by the sight of tea plants in a misty, cloud-studded garden perched on the Himalayan slopes somewhere between India, Nepal, and Bhutan. MARIAGE FRÈRES has designed this dish in the form of a five-petal flower blossom of silver-plated metal, set on a base struck with the firm’s prestigious logo. The luxurious yet discreet “Tea Flower” merits its own special place on the table.

A1125 - 510 €

../images/T2/A1125.jpg

The embossed poppy capsules - as well as its name, of course - evoke the charm and allure of Opium. This tall plant with its lone flower, sometimes coloured, sometimes white resembling a teacup, was cultivated in China, the country of tea “par excellence”, for its solitary beauty where it enchanted the poets and artists of the time. Mariage Frères pays homage not only to the millennial history between man and this flower, but also celebrates the pleasures associated with the palate as well as the mind. For the lovers of finer things, this teapot was conceived and designed. Stoneware teapot made in France.

This “treasure” of a teapot is a free interpretation of classical, LOUIS-XIV opulence – when swirls, curls and volutes entwined flora and fauna – thereby reflecting three-century-old decorative skills. The raised surface of its walnut-shaped ceramic body flows and swirls around a handsome handle and lofty spout. A rounded top of pewter is capped with a conical knob, in a blend of materials that charmingly underscores natural nobility. Stoneware teapot made in France, enameled with a thin layer of platinum, crowned by an attached pewter lid and its patina of age, it can hold 0,5 liter.

Stoneware teapot
platinum enamel - 4 cups
A1715 - 510 €

../images/T2/A1715.jpg

The form of this enamelled stoneware teapot, reminiscent of a magic lamp, suggests fantastic adventures where unicorns and lions are the heroes. A whimsical creature, the unicorn is not only the symbol of purity, but of power and spirituality as well. Since the dawn of time the unicorn has appeared in numerous works of art and literature – in ancient China it even figured on the royal crest – and is universally considered an augury. The lion, on the other hand, embodies courage, justice and knowledge (rightfully earning its title as “king”) and therefore is depicted prominently on armaments as well as serving as the beasts of the divine. It is often authoritarian, however, and the fables of yore warn us of its tyrannical thirst for power. And between these mythical animals, at the centre of the teapot, a box of tea unites the two. Perhaps a bit of tea is all it takes to achieve harmony? Stoneware teapot made in France.

Noble, with an elongated silhouette, the Darjeeling teapot is made of stoneware enamelled in matte platinum. Stoneware teapot made in France.

This piece is a signed rerelease by Mariage Frères of a Chinese Ming dynasty teapot dating from the beginning of the 17th century. Under the Ming dynasty (from the 14th century till the 17th century) tea began to be sold as leaves, thus being served as infusions. The teapot became the most functional way by which to prepare tea and was quickly adopted as the standard by tea connoisseurs. The East India Company, which exchanged spices and metals for tea in Imperial China, introduced this form of tea preparation in Europe. The Mandarin teapot, of a pure and sober style, rests true to the Ming spirit. Stoneware teapot made in France.

POÈTES SOLITAIRES
Stoneware teapot

Mariage Frères designed this teapot as a tribute to all the “solitary poets” who sang the praises of tea, from Marcel Proust who immortalized the emotions stirred by a tea-soaked pastry to Pushkin, Thomas Mann, and Henry James. Its half-orb shape allows the imagination to choose between sunrise and sunset, while its “tea-clipper” decoration is an emblem of exotic travel. Stoneware teapot made in France.

This teapot is a silver-plated reproduction of a model exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Drawing its inspiration from the Orient, created in 1875, this teapot arose from a movement seeking, through the representation of characters, fauna and flora of the Orient, a sense of mystery and exoticism. The Orient thus recreated by the Romantics was an imaginary, eternal land of adventure, enchantment and fantasy. Compared with a European world going through huge change, it represented the notion of immutability. This teapot plays on the poetry of nature and the magic of the desert, and brings to mind the footprints of both man and camel in those strange, hostile and colourful lands inundated with sunshine that invite us to set out on journeys, and promise moments of rest rewarded by hot tea.

AVENTURIER

The shape of this “adventurer” teapot alludes to the hand-warmers used in the Orient in the 18th century. Its body of crazed stoneware and its flat, detachable handle of bamboo (from the forests of Kyoto) remind us that a pot of hot, restoring tea can match the warmth of coals and embers.
