PLUCKED FROM A LARGE, CENTURIES-OLD WILD TEA TREE IN THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE

In the heart of the Kingdom of Thailand, Mariage Frères has discovered a gift from nature; a wild tea tree hidden in the ancient lands of Opium in the Golden Triangle.  In this misty, mountainous region situated along the border of Burma and Laos, nature’s best conditions are reunited: an exceptional terroir at an altitude of 1,500 meters allows this tea tree to let its rich leaves express unique and exquisite saveurs.

<b>Dried leaves : </b>The tender leaves and young, elegantly twisted buds decked out in majestic volcanic livery exhale a smooth perfume of frangipani flowers wet from the monsoon, joined by exquisite notes of pink galangal.

<b>Infused leaves : </b>Luminous green streaked with garnet. Still warm, the leaves seduce with a gourmet note of praline followed by a fresh burst of rose water. Then from the leaves exudes a fruity-green score evoking freshly-picked starfruit.

<b>Liquor : </b>The opalescent orange liquor blends into a round, cashew-tinted hue evoking elegantly fruity sensations of roasted apricot. A pleasantly sweet-and-floral nuance of dainty violet frames a delicious rush of candied quince.

At the heart of the island of Taiwan was born Rare Milky Blue Tea<sup>&reg;</sup>, in the region of Nantou, celebrated for its endless fertile plains and unreachable summits. Mariage Frères has distilled all the magic of the terroir of Tung Ting Mountain to create a unique and mysterious Blue Tea™ with a milky aroma, naturally drawn out from the essence of the leaf.

<b>Dried leaves : </b>Like a beautiful jade-pearl necklace the leaves are carefully rolled out and heated, eliciting an exquisite note of biscuit followed by a hint of chypre – reminiscent of a forest stroll in budding spring – accompanied by a reassuring fragrance of candied tamarind.

<b>Infused leaves : </b>The infused leaves open with a frank floral aroma recalling fresh redwood resin, then an airy note of precious rice, harmoniously blanketed with milky vapors.

<b>Liquor : </b>The ripe apricot-coloured robe is full of tender fragrances – an overture to a creamy and dense cup – bursting with stewed fruits on a backdrop of white almond cream.

Our adventurer’s spirit has taken us far off the beaten track to bring back this unique and surprising tea from a new continent: New Zealand inscribes its unexpected name in our tea catalogue. Irrigated by the largest river on the island, the Waikato (in Maori « flowing water ») is known for its large biodiversity.

In the north of the territory, a small garden dedicates itself to the confection of this cru exclusively for Mariage Frères.

<b>Dried leaves : </b>The youngest and most beautiful leaves are harvested one by one, then carefully hand-worked to obtain a precious sheen of jade and indigo. The nose evokes fresh bamboo resin amidst an invigorating aroma of camphor wood. The heart of the leaves emit a note of patisserie recalling marshmallow.

<b>Infused leaves : </b>Emerald-jade, the leaves open bountifully on a note of Bourbon vetiver and rosewood, carried by a hint of vanilla. The finale is mastered by a floral aroma of tuberose.

<b>Liquor : </b>Absinthe green. A fresh, downy veil of almond milk drapes over the palate. Frank and seductive, the finale balances between gelée de nèfle et une crème de figue aux noix.

<b>Infused leaves : </b>Dazzling shades of tan & amber. A fruity heart note gracefully defined by blackcurrant and plum leads into a soaring aroma of antique rose while in the background notes of cashew and autumn truffle linger about.

<b>Liquor : </b>Crystalline amber, fruity and supple like a quince poached in strawberry tree berry syrup, with an infinite persistence as invigorating as licorice candy.
