- Issued from a garden in biodynamic conversion - North Tukvar or « Flame of fire » is one of the most famous gardens of Darjeeling from where one can admire snow-covered Kanchenjunga – the third highest mountain in the world. Throughout the years, the plantation has become a model for sustainable living by producing its own natural compost and installing a gravity-based irrigation system. The surrounding bamboo forests preserve the stability of this rich terroir full of exceptional century-old tea plants. Dried leaves: Magnificent downy buds with their handsome reseda green leaves reveal notes of buttery shortbread and coconut. Infused leaves: Once infused, the supple leaves offer fragrances of pomegranate syrup and roasted chestnut. Liquor: Golden amber. The smooth liquor’s aroma, reminiscent of pistachio milk, is a pure joy. In the cup, a perfumed wave of orange blossom and Damascus rose dance with delicious notes of Reine-Claude plum jam. A First Flush Sovereign.

“Tea from beyond the skies” Issued from Jhinglam and Poomong, two extraordinary divisions of the Namring garden created in 1855 by the British, these parcels of land are found between 1,220 and 1,370 metres in altitude. A pruning in July, good sunlight and the masterful irrigation of hardy, century-old tea plants resistant to the cold temperatures allowed for an exceptionally early growth of buds and the confection of this grand cru 2018. The admirable work of the planters, the unique savoir-faire of Mariage Frères and the remarkable character of the Namring terroir give rise to a rich splendour of lunar velvety shades. Dried leaves: The majestic silver tips that swath the young, indigo leaves exhale a perfume of fresh date and nougat. Infused leaves: An elegant moiré of jade and silver, the leaves reveal a deliciously fruity-woody score of roasted guava. Liquor: Champagne gold, the silky liquor pleasantly caresses the palate. A note of grilled pine nut precedes a gentle, zesty aroma of blood orange married to an airy fragrance of white orchid. Hints of rosy pink peppercorn prolong the enjoyment while a harmonious wisp of vanilla lingers long after. The path to paradise!

Starting in 1852, just two years before the creation of Mariage Frères, the garden of Puttabong or «Land of the Green Leaves» planted its first tea bushes. Innovation and quality best represent the values of this pioneering tea estate which works hard to conserve its Terroir by practicing agriculture in harmony with nature. The purity of its harvests is matched only by the supreme pleasure of its taste. Dried leaves: The pastel buds in jade and ivory deliver a sweet note of macaron followed by zesty hints of kumquat and incense. Infused leaves: Pearly, emerald green. An opulent aroma of gardenia blends with a pleasant note of roasted pistachio. Liquor: Glittering vermillion robe. Thanks to its hundred year old tea plants, this prestigious appellation bears exquisite harvests. An iconic must-have in the confidential world of premium teas. Dried leaves: The young, emerald-coloured leaves and the pearly buds deliver notes of starfuit and cashew. Infused leaves: Imperial green. GYOKURO SUPRÊME ASAHINA™

Japan

This green tea Jardin Premier from Japan is packaged in a 50 g under vacuum pochette. THE MOST PRECIOUS OF JAPANESE GYOKURO Mount Fuji, about 100 km southwest of Tokyo, dominating the Japanese Alps overlooking the Pacific Ocean, is a sacred mountain for the Japanese. The Asahina River meanders along its steep slopes, irrigating a volcanic soil that offers exceptional qualities to the tea trees. Our Gyokuro Suprême Asahina comes from a small family garden surrounded by forests and lovingly cared for by a couple of tea enthusiasts: the planter, recognised for over half a century as an expert in the art of treating the precious leaves of tea trees – to protect them from direct sunlight, he veils them in straw and with his companion only harvests at dawn – has specially created for Mariage Frères only – as the great painters of the past used to do – a masterpiece, in a very limited amount and of a quality never before attained. Dried leaves : long and elegant, gleaming emerald green, accentuated by and glittering buds: unbelievably tender Infused leaves : a fresh floral bouquet, supple and intense, remarkably elegant Liquor : blue-green in colour – symbol of the Japanese Imperial Court – marked by a thick, velvety texture, full-bodied, supple with aromatic inflections that progressively intensify. Smooth and dense, it quickly entices the palate with the gourmet notes of biscuit, crème pâtissière, and warm brioche; floral buttercup rise up and provide a striking counterpoint. The whole is crowned by a long finale, sweet with a hint of red berries. The luxurious sensation, delicate and opulent, lingers indefinitely in the mouth. The leaves may undergo a second, shorter infusion which will prove just as wonderful.

The celebrated garden of Namring was created in 1855 by the British. Cultivated at 1,525 meters in altitude, this cru is harvested from the oldest parcel of land known as Poomong, absolutely magnificent and prestigious. A pruning in autumn, ample sunlight and pure water from the Himalayas provokes an early formation of buds and hence the crafting of this grand millesime. The remarkable character of Namring’s terroir and the admirable work of the planters associated with the unique savoir-faire of Mariage Frères give rise to a rich splendor of lunar velvety shades. Dried leaves : Downy buds and the young imperial-green leaves give off fruity tones of Bengal quince and fresh pistachio. Infused leaves : Tender frosted green. The supple leaves exhale a rich fragrance of passion fruit and green papaya. Liquor : Pearly gold. This time our explorer’s spirit has led us far from the beaten path, where we discovered an autumnal harvest, an unusual, unique tea grown on a new, southern continent. Now, like Australia, New Zealand makes an entrance on our list of teas. Located in the district of Waikato (Maori for “flowing water”) — named after the largest river in the country and known for its ecological diversity with its green hills, caves, forests and lakes — a small tea estate on North Island has devoted itself to producing 100% organic tea. The dark green leaves have a pronounced aroma dominated by clover honey with a touch of vanilla and a hint of sandal wood. The liquor, shimmering gold, exhales a floral bouquet of poppy accompanied by a subtle and fresh note of cedar. Well balanced, this sparkling tea has extraordinary persistence. This faraway grand cru is unique and magnificent.

Enjoying an exceptional terroir, the planter passionately refines his methods so as to perpetually improve the quality of these harvests. The tea bushes planted at the beginning of the golden age of tea are the subject of special attention in order to bring out their aromatic quintessence which makes for the remarkable identity of this excellent garden. An ode to the senses and to pleasure. Dried leaves: The young, meticulously hand-worked leaves in emerald unleash notes of hazelnut and ripened Mirabelle plum. Infused leaves: The handsome verdant green leaves deliver a bouquet of rosebuds accented with a hint of buttery brioche. Liquor: Golden amber with fuchsia reflections. An unforgettably rich fragrance of nougat blanc and custard apple blend with elegance and pleasure for an infinite gourmet experience. A generous Grand Cru.

Grown in a high-altitude, luxuriantly green region in the southern and south-western sector of Yunnan province, this tea is particularly likely to produce high-quality harvests, composed of leaves with many wonderful golden tips. In this cradle of black tea, planters know how to find the right balance of flavours-its dark, orange-brown cup yields a rich, steady fragrance and frank taste, yet the lively liquor contributes spicy, flowery accents. Suitable for the morning, and able to accompany a wide range of luncheon dishes.

Situated 1,250 meters in altitude, in the heart of Darjeeling, the garden of Rungmook planted in 1880 is known for teas of grand quality. Surrounded by abundant nature the tea plants are cared in such a way to respect both man and the environment. Dried leaves : The sublime ivory-coloured buds scattered with handsome, slender young leaves tinted emerald are simply beautiful. The ensemble delivers a fruity score of Morello cherry joined by a tasty hint of sultana scone. Infused leaves : Sparkling jade. A perfume of dewy peony joins harmoniously to sweet notes of hazelnut milk. Liquor : Lacquered golden. An enveloping and persistent umami sensation recalls an addictive note of blackberry. The sweetness of candied angelica is cut by bright zesty notes evoking candied citron before the finale unleashes a gourmet bouquet of green guava and delicate tea rose. Elegant terroir.

This plantation, one of the oldest in Darjeeling, was founded in 1854 just like Mariage Frères. With its 176 hectares at 2,100m in altitude, where the slopes of the Himalayas wind through India, Nepal and Bhutan, this is the closest garden to the old town. Tea plants that have been lovingly cherished for over 160 years still produce one of the best crus in the region. Dried leaves: The handsome buds and flamboyant young leaves in matte ebony deliver a gourmet fragrance evoking scones accompanied by delicious carob marmalade. Infused leaves: The colour of Indian summer, the blooming leaves vibrate with tones of maple syrup and a voluptuous hint of precious incense. Liquor: Dusky amber. The suave, fragrant exuberance of fresh walnut, hazelnut and almond blends wonderfully with the tangy richness of blackcurrant. The tasting continues with an elegant bright inflection of pomegranate honey and a final note of pineapple infused with hibiscus flower. Happiness is in the cup.

Gourmet notes of fresh date are interspersed with hints of bergamot lemon zest. Liquor: Brilliant sepia. A wisp of cotton flower caresses the palate, accompanied by a delicious sensation of hazelnut and grilled pistachio. An enchanting flowery-sweet taste of rosy mirabelle marmalade blends with the sweet aroma of tender, juicy white peach.
